Chapter 5. (: (LAST)

Back at the police station..

"Why did you kill Mrs Lily and stole her ring? You better speak up and say the truth," I said firmly to Joe.

"I have no choice... That woman killed my father and took all his fortune. That's how she became so rich. I wanted to revenge for my father thats all" Joe Anderson said as he broke down into tears. "I tried my all means to be closer to her so that one day I could kill her. She didn't know that I was her son as I disappeared after my father's death."

"So why did you stole her ring?" I asked, feeling sorry for Joe Anderson.

"I did not do that! Why would I want her ring for?" Joe Anderson replied with irritation. "It was Zelfa her maid who stole it. I saw it when I happened to pass by that woman's room."

The next day..

The police went to Mrs Lily's house and nabbed Zelfa. She admitted and was guilty of her mistake. Zelfa gave us back that stolen ring and she was fined $1000.

At last I was finally done with this case.
Case closed!

Chapter 4. (:

I went back into Mrs Lily's house to search for more evidence. Nothing much, I thought. Just some books that she wrote and her accessories. I flipped through a book called "My family". I was amazed that Mrs Lily was so pretty when she was young. All of a sudden, a photograph dropped from the book.

I picked it up and looked at it. There was Mrs Lily, her dead husband and a young boy. Who was he? I noticed the same birthmark of Joe's Anderson on the young boy. So this young boy was Joe Anderson! I realised that he was also David the car washer.

Now what's left is to nab the murderer, Joe Anderson.
I've already had a perfect plan in mind.

The next day..

My boss had already reported to the media that Mrs Lily did not die. She had become a vegetable. We had to do bluff because we wanted to lure David to the hospital so that we could nab him red handed.

That night, I ordered all the police to hide behind and watch out for Joe Anderson. My boss and I will hide behind a chair in the ward waiting for Joe Anderson to arrive.

One hour passed. No one came. Two hour passed. It was already midnight by then.
Suddenly the ward door opened. A man holding a chopper walked in cautiously. I had a good view from behind the chair and indeed he was David the car washer!

"Stop what you're doing Joe Anderson!" I commanded. Joe Anderson looked surprised.
Immediately, my police officers handcuffed him and brought him back to the police station.

Chapter 3. (:

I wanted to know who truly knows what Mrs Lily was doing on the night her ring got stolen. So as to prove that the person did enter Mrs Lily bedroom.

Hence, I asked the same questions to everyone which is "Do you know what Mrs Lily was doing yesterday night?"

Zelfa's answer was "Of course she was sleeping. I was already asleep at that time."
Mandy's answer was "I don't know and I don't care."
David's answer was "She was in the toilet or maybe watching television, I guessed. "
Jonas's answer was "I was not at home at that time. I don't know anything."

Beep! Beep! My handphone rang again. It was Tim who called.

"Charles! The report is out. The fingerprints on the sweet wrapper and the chopper are the same. It belongs to a man called Joe Anderson," Tim said.

Could my assumption be wrong? How could it be? I pondered on those questions while I logged in my computer. I checked on Joe Anderson and realized he looked kind of familiar. I wondered if I have just seen him a few days before. There was also an unusual birthmark on his right neck.

Who could this mysterious person be?

Chapter 2. (:

Back at my office..

"So did you find anything at the crime scene?" my boss asked.

"This case cannot be a burglary. Mrs Lily said that the windows and the doors were locked and not spoil," I explained. "But I found a sweet wrapper in the garden. I have already sent it to Tim to find fingerprints. I suspect that the burglar is one of the person in the house."

"Detective Charles, I have just received another call. Bad news, Mrs Lily has been murdered in the kitchen," my boss told me.

At the crime scene..

Upon reaching, I went straight into the kitchen. There were blood stains everywhere. I searched high and low for clues throughly. All of a sudden, something shimmering caught my attention. I shone my detective torch at the object. It was a chopper! I believed that the weapon was used to murder Mrs Lily.

"I am sure the murderer and the burglar are the same person. And they are one of the person in the house," I muttered, grinning to myself.

According to Mrs Lily, there are a total of 5 person in her house including her. So the other four were - Mandy, her sister; Jonas, the gardener; Zelfa, her maid and David the car washer.

Chapter 1. (:

Beep! Beep! My handphone rang again and it woke me up from my sleep. Reluctantly, I picked it up.

"Detective Charles, new case for you. There is a burglar case at Rainbow Street 15. Mrs Lily's ring got stolen in the middle of the night," my boss said urgently. I sighed heavily at the thought of solving another case. Immediately, I rushed down to the crime scene.

At the crime scene

Mrs Lily's apartment was huge. Very huge. It would be better if there were a swimming pool, I thought. I walked briskly towards the living room and I saw an old woman crouching on an arm chair weeping silently. Her face was very wrinkled. It looked as though she was ninety years old.

"Mrs Lily, can you tell me what exactly happened yesterday night?" I asked concernedly.

"Well," Mrs Lily said sadly. "It was late at night around one thirty. I was reading and munching some cookies. My precious ring was on my table, just beside my plate of cookies. I wanted to wash my hands. Hence, I left my bedroom to the toilet. When I was back, it was gone!"

"When did you leave your bedroom and when did you came back?" I asked while taking down notes into my detective notebook.

"One forty. I saw the clock on my desk. That was why I wanted to sleep. I came back at around one fifty," Mrs Lily replied.

After interrogating, I went around the house and did some detective work. No luck, I thought.
Just then, I stepped on a sweet wrapper.

Excitedly, I picked it up and put it inside a plastic bag.
